About Berpeta

History:

Berpeta district is the administrative district of Assam, India. The district headquarters is in Berpeta. Barpeta was formerly known as "Tatikuchi". Tati means Weaver and Kuchi means a group of villages in the native Balpetian dialect. H. Weaver's land. In ancient times, it was a central part of an ancient Kamlap, which was included in the Kamapita of Kamalupa Pisas, an ancient division of the ancient region of Kamurupu. In the 19th century, the city of Berpeta and its adjoining areas became part of the Kamlap district, which was not divided as a subdivision of Balpeta.

Barpeta, an important spiritual center of Assam, is famous for its Vaishnavism Turns and Neo-Vishnavism Satras in neighboring areas such as Sundridia and Patbaushi. But the great Satra is in the heart of the city, called Kirtangal by the locals.
