Anuppur District is located in the southeastern part of Madhya Pradesh. Anuppur District is an administrative district located in the Shahdol Division of the Madhya Pradesh region in central India. The district was created on 15 August 2003 outside of Shahdol District. It is part of the Shahdol Division. Anuppur region is mountainous and forested. The Narmada River flows from the Amarkantak hill in Maikal Hills, and the Son River comes from nearby. The early history of the Anuppur region is not clearly documented.
