Introduction

Madhya Pradesh is situated in the central part of India. It is the fifth most populous state in India. Bhopal is its capital and Indore is the largest city. The state has the largest reserves of diamonds and copper.

History

After India’s Independence, Nawab ruled over Bhopal. Later, on 30 April 1949, Nawab agreed to sign the document to merge Bhopal. Thereafter, Bhopal was merged with Madhya Bharat and Vindhya Pradesh and finally, Madhya Pradesh was established on 1 November 1956.

Fairs and festivals

The fairs and festivals reflect tradition and culture. They celebrate various fairs and festivals throughout the year such as Shivratri, Dussehra, Malwa festival, Pachmarhi festival, Gwalior Trade fair, Betwa Nimar Utsav, and much more.

Geography 

Madhya Pradesh covers an area of 3,08,000 km². It is the ‘Heart of India’, which covers a region of 9.38% of India. It is surrounded by – Rajasthan (north-western part), Uttar Pradesh (north-western part), Chhattisgarh (south-eastern part) Maharashtra (southern part), and Gujarat (western side).

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the state had a 72,597,565 population, including distinct tribes, communities, castes, or groups. The adivasi population was 15.34 million. The state consists 90.9% Hinduism, 6.6% Muslim,  6.6% Jainism, 0.8% Buddhist, 0.3% Christian, and 0.2% Sikhism.

Culture

The culture of the state is nurtured by the traditions of indigenous tribes. The first most famous and largest tribe is the Gonds and the second-largest tribe is the Bhils. The state is also famous for its artworks and paintings. Chitravan, Lok Chitrakar, Pithora, Mandana, Thapa, and Sanjhi are famous paintings. The most beautiful art in the state is Dhokra art.

Language

Language is the communicating ability to communicate with others. Mostly, states are divided on a linguistic basis, while Hindi is the legitimate language and is a widely spoken language throughout the state.

Tourism

The state has won the national award for best tourism state. The state is famous for its religious sites, hill stations,  national parks, and natural reserves. Tourist places like Sanchi Stupa, Sonagiri, Amarkantak, Orchha, Muktagiri, and others places are attractions for tourists as well as locals.

Education

The literacy rate in the state was 70.6% as per the 2011 census. The state has various institutions such as IIT Indore, IIITM Gwalior, IIITDM Jabalpur, NIT Bhopal, AIIMS Bhopal, IIM Indore, IISER Bhopal, IIFM Bhopal, NLIU Bhopal, and DNLU Jabalpur.

Dances and music

The dancers wear beautiful attire and jewelry during the performance. Kaksar, Muria, Karma, Sugga, Gaur, and Saila are the major forms of dance in Madhya Pradesh. Dhankalu, Relo, Leja, Gooing, and Chai Parah are melodious pieces of music that attract the attention of tourists and locals.

Cuisine

Madhya Pradesh cuisine offers vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. They mainly use homemade spices. The staple food of the state is wheat. The state has some popular non-vegetarian dishes are kebabs, gosht korma, or Rogan Josh, and vegetarian dishes are Poha, Bhutta Khees, dal baffle, and jalebi. Famous desserts are Chikki, Mawa-Bati, Shrek jalebi, or khoya jalebi.
