chittorgarh
Located in South-Eastern Rajasthan, Chittorgarh is known as Chittorgarh Fort, India's largest fort built on a mountaintop, spread over an area of about 700 acres [700 ha]. The capital of the ancient kingdom of Meewar, the magnificent fortress will always be remembered for the bravery of Jauhar's sacrifice by Rani Padmini to prevent the conquest of the fort by Alauddin Khilji. Chittorgarh stands at the head of Chattari Rajput and is remembered in the pages of history for its glorious battles, especially the siege of Alauddin Khilji. Once known for its beauty and luxury, today, Chittorgarh has abandoned its heroic stories and far-fetched traits to reach commercialization. It takes a few hours to close the fort complex on foot. Wear comfortable shoes and keep a water bottle close at hand. Rana Kumbha Palace is the largest structure in Chittorgarh Castle, and although it is now a ruined building with broken walls and piles of stone, it once was a magnificent three-story palace with huge pillars, maze-like tunnels, and intricately designed structures. The most famous place in Chittorgarh Fort is the Padmini Palace, named after Queen Padmini herself. Packed with leaflets on the roof and canals, the story of Queen Padmini's heroism spreads to every corner of this dilapidated building.
