jawai-bandh
Jawai Bandh, a dam built across the Jawai River, near the town of Sumerpur in the Pali region is one of the largest dams in Rajasthan. Built by King Umaid Singh of Jodhpur in 1956-57 for the purpose of pumping irrigation water, the lake has since supplied water to Jodhpur and to the villages in the Pali and Jalore districts. The dam is spread over an area of 500 square kilometers and is 61 feet high. The area is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife due to its attractive landscape, as well as leopard games and bird watching. The area of the dam is dotted with granite hills, scattered rocks, caves, and a stream that flows through the center, dividing the area. Granite hills are believed to have been built millions of years ago. It is the only place where visitors can see birds, leopards, and crocodiles. The area is famous for attracting many winged visitors, especially the famous Sarus cranes. Visitors also have a camping option here. Jawai is also known for its leopard habitats, birds, and crocodiles. It is also called the winter paradise of migratory birds with over 100 species that occur every year. Along with a variety of birds, Jawai is home to panthers, wolves, chinkaras, nilgai, bears, and wolves.
