History:
West Sikkim is the site of the ancient capital Yuksom. West Sikkim served as the capital of Sikkim from 1642 for almost 50 years until it was transferred to Rabdentse. This region was under the control of the Nepalese people for 30 years in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. After the English-Nepalese War (1814-16), the region was restored to Sikkim. West Sikkim (now officially known as the Geyzing District) is the Indian state of Sikkim. Its headquarters are Geyzing, also known as Gyalshing.
