diphu
Diphu, the capital of Karbi-Anglong province south of Assam, is located 250 kilometers from Guwahati. It is a beautiful little town that is a popular weekend picnic for people from the surrounding districts. Apart from being a pleasant and quiet resort, Diphu has many famous districts within and around the area that attract tourists. One can take a trip to Singhason, Kohora, Khanduli, and several such places. These places will allow you to enjoy hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, etc. While in Dip one can visit religious sites such as the Iskon Temple, Shiva Mandir, and Deopani Durga Mandir. The word 'Diphu' is derived from the two words 'Di' and 'Guphu' which are derived from the Dimasa language. 'Di' translates to water and 'Guphu' translates to white. The name was coined, as it has long been said that the stream that flows through the Dip, became white as it carried a pile of soil during the rainy season. Dip is somehow considered a small hill station as the town is located on a hill at an altitude of 186 meters above sea level. This makes the climate here more pleasant than the low-lying surrounding regions. The best time to visit Dip is from the end of October to February.
