Located in the center of the city of Bihar, Vaishali is a small region and a respected place for Hindus, Buddhists, and Jains. There are 18 best places to visit. It is the city where King Mahavir was born. Considered as the world's first republic, the Vaishali is believed to have been named after King Vishal, from the time of Mahabharat. And the town where the Buddha delivered his last sermon. Surrounded by mango trees and bananas and a vast rice field, it is now part of the Bihut-based Trihut section. The village is an important religious and historical site and is visited by tourists every year. King Buddha spent most of his life here and used to visit Vaishali regularly. To mark the occasion King Ashoka, who converted to Buddhism after the assassination of Kalinga, decided to erect one of his significant pillars here. Apart from the Buddhists, the Vaishali is revered as a sacred site by the Jains because it is also the birthplace of King Mahavira. The footprints of King Ram in the temple of Ramachandra also formed a strong Hindu connection. Vaishali today is a small area surrounded by banana and mango plantations and rice fields. Excavations at the site, however, have revealed a remarkable history. The epic Ramayana tells the story of the heroic king Vishal who ruled here.
