Daras

Daras is popular with tourists because of its rugged landscape that allows them to engage in adventurous activities. Travelers who want to explore Daras can go trekking in the Sul Valley near the city. The Kargil Daras War Memorial was built by the Indian Army to commemorate the soldiers and officers who died in the 1999 Kargil War. Also known as Vijaypath, there is an inscription dedicated to brave soldiers. The main highlight here is the pink sandstone wall engraved with the names of the soldiers who died in battle for the country. Located on one of the Amanas Yatra hiking trails, Mina Marg is known for its scenic hills and valleys and the Machoi Glacier. It is 30 kilometers from Doras. Just 20 km from Daras, the small village is unique throughout the Ladakh region (including the Kargil district). This village is the only village in the region where Kashmiri is spoken prominently. One of the walls of this mass jig is believed to have risen naturally during construction. Enveloped in such legends and beliefs, Ningol Masjid is 7 km away and is often visited by Islamic pilgrims.
