About Karaikal

History:

Karaikal, City, Union Territory of Pondicherry, Southeastern India. It forms an enlave near the mouth of the Alasalal River on the Coromandel Coast in the Bay of Bengal in eastern Tamil Nadu. The capital of the Kaveri territory and the former French colony of India, Kaveri is located in the fertile delta of the Kaveri River, Tamil Nadu's main rice-growing region. This area was part of the Chola dynasty in the 10th century. Since the 1950s, the area has been a popular seaside resort for Union territory tourists. 

Famous for?

Karaikal is known nationally for its unique and unique temple dedicated to Sir Saneeswara (Sir Saturn) in Thirunallar. Near Karaikal are two famous shrines, Velankanni for Christians and Nagoya for Muslims.
