About Rupnagar District


History:

The city of Rupnagar is very old. The city is said to have reigned in the 11th century and was founded by Raja, named Roquesher, named after his son Lupsen .Recent excavations in Lupnagar have proved that the city is home to a well-developed Indus Valley Civilization. In the primitive historic Punjab, Rupnagar is probably the only known archaeological site that can claim the status of a town or city. The results of recent archaeological surveys consist of lumps of soil, statues, coins and more.
