The temple is one of the oldest monuments in Pune and was built during the reign of the Pesho dynasty. It has 103 steps leading up to the top of the hill where the temple is located. Other temples on the hill are dedicated to Lord Devdeveshwar, Vitthal and Rukmini, Vishnu and Kartikeya. The Parvati River is joined by numerous small tributaries leading to beautiful waterfalls. A clear view of the Himalayan mountains greets tourists as they indulge in hiking, camping, and river rafting. The destination is also a popular stop for hippie travelers who come here because of its famous chara (hashish), rave parties, music festivals, and spiritual enlightenment. The Parvati Valley attracts an equal number of young Indian and foreign tourists who like to stay and enjoy the solitude promised by the snowcapped mountains.
