Kra Dadi District was created as a result of the Arunachal Pradesh Reorganization of Districts Bill of 2021, which aimed to improve administrative efficiency and provide better governance to the people. Prior to its creation, the area was part of the Lower Subansiri district. The district was officially inaugurated on January 22, 2021, by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
