The district was established in 1987 when the Subansiri district was divided into upper and lower Subansiri districts. The Lower Savant Siri district has a long ancient history associated with the Kingdom . It was probably under the control of the chief of for a long time and was under the control of Bilpal in the 12th century. In 1999, the Papampea district was split to form a new district, and on April 1, 2001, the Krungkmai district was established. In October 2017, the state government approved the creation of the Kamle district, including spin-offs of the Raga, Dolungmukh, and Kumpurijio districts from the Lower Subansiri district.
Orchids and flowers. Giro is famous for its rare orchids and other flowers such as Rhododendron arboreum (Sanji Apu), Hedychiumellipticum (Pappi Apu), and Hedychium densiflorum.
