History:
New Delhi is the capital of India. It became Punjab. In 1911, it was announced that the capital of India's UK-owned region would be moved from Calcutta to Delhi. The name "New Delhi" was adopted in 1927 and the new capital was established on February 13, 1931. New Delhi was officially declared the capital of the Indian Union after India's independence on August 15, 1947. Its small part, built during the British era, is informally known as Delhi in Lutience.
