About East Jaintia Hills

History: 

District East Jaintia Hills has been upgraded from the previous Khliehriat CivilSubDivision. Prior to the establishment of administrative divisions, an administrative unit was established on August 14, 1976, with the aim of bringing the administration closer to the grassroots. Five and a half years later, the unit was upgraded to a full-fledged private subdivision on May 27, 1982, with the subdivision officer as responsible for management. It was upgraded to the Meghalaya district on July 31, 2012. The government took extensive steps in 2012 to create four more districts. District borders Bangladesh in the south. The area is known for mining coal and limestone. This is an important trade and transportation route for the northeastern states.
