About Alappuzha District

History:

Alappuzha was home to the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising against the Separate American Model independent Travancore proposal and also the revolt against the Feudal raj. Coir is the most important commodity manufactured in Alappuzha.[10] The Coir Board was established by the Central Government under the provisions of the Coir Industry Act, 1955. Alappuzha is a Land Mark between the broad Arabian sea and a network of rivers flowing into it.In the early first decade of the 20th Century the then Viceroy of the Indian EmpireIt is assumed that the name of Alappuzha was derived by the geographical position and physical features of the place.
