About Kannur District
History:
This district was part of the Chera dynasty, which ruled most of Kerala in the early Christian era. Since then, Kannur was the capital of Koratiri Rajas, whose kingdom maintained trade relations between Arabia and Persia in the 12th and 13th centuries. The Kannur district has witnessed one of the longest bloody resistances to British rule in India. The rebellion, led by Pazhassi Raja from 1792 to 1806, kept most of the district in a state of war. The Kannur district played an important role in India's free movement.
