About Thiruvananthapuram District

History:

Thiruvananthapuram Parish was founded in 1920 as the first parish in the Travancore region. The district was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. It is also the IT capital of the state. The current district was created in 1956 by separating the four talcs at the southernmost tip of the old district to form the Kanyakumari district. The city, Thiruvananthapuram district, and Kanyakumari district were ruled in ancient and medieval times by the Ai dynasty, the Tamil kingdom at the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent.
