History:
Chandel County was formed on May 13, 1974. This region is the southeastern part of Manipur at 24o40 ′ N Latitude and 93o50 ′ E Longitude. It is a border area of 2,100 sq. Km. Its neighbors are Myanmar (formerly Burma) in the south and east, the state of Ukhrul in the north, the province of Churachandpur in the south and west, and the province of Thoubal in the north. It is about 64 km. far from Imphal. National Highway No. 39 passes through this region. This region is home to many communities.
