About Kamjong


History:

The regional headquarters are located in Kamjong. Kamjong District is a newly formed district on December 8, 2016, Kamjong District is home to the Tangkhul tribes, a multicultural people. The name Tangkhul was given to their neighbors, the Meiteis. The northern Tangkhuls were also called Luhupa. The name Naga was given to them and to similar tribes by the Burmese (Myanmar). Ear piercings are a common practice among the Nagas, including the Tangkhuls. The Tangkhuls are part of the great Mongolian race that has spread throughout the world. Linguistically, they are members of a large Sino-Tibetan language family.
