About Ukhrul
History:
The state of Ukhrul is home to the Tangkhul tribes, who are the most developed people. The name Tangkhul was given to their neighbors, the Meiteis. The northern Tangkhuls were also called Luhupa. The name Naga was given to them and to similar tribes by the Burmese, that is, Myanmar people who did not give an ear. The Tangkhuls are part of the great Mongolian race that has spread throughout the world. Linguistically, they are members of a large Sino-Tibetan language family, within that small Tibeto-Burman family.
