The eastern Imphal region has been in operation since 30 August 1996. The history of the Imphal East forms an inseparable part of the history of Manipur. Imphal, which covers part of the Imphal East, is not just the current capital of Manipur. There is no historical record of how the name Imphal was given to the latest regional capital. Apparently, there were churches or plenty of houses or gatherings or nice houses in present-day Imphal, the name Imphal is probably derived from combining two words namely, "Yum" and "Phal". there are no single opinions on this subject.
