History:
Thoubal District is one of the 16 districts of Manipur in northeastern India. The region is bounded by the Senapati district to the north, the districts of Ukhrul and Chandel to the east, the districts of Churchandpur and Bishnupur to the south, and the districts of Imphal West and Imphal East to the west. In May 1983 the district came into existence when a small portion of the Thoubal district of Manipur Central and all its administrative structures were transferred to form a new district. Later, in November 1983, the Thoubal region was divided into Thoubal and Kakching subdivisions, including the Kakching and Waikhong Tahsils.
