History:
Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Jaisin II, the ruler of Amel, the ruler of Kushwar Rajput. It was one of the earliest planned cities in modern India, designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. During the British colonial period, the city functioned as the capital of the state of Jaipur. After independence in 1947, Jaipur became the newly formed capital of Rajasthan. Most of the city, including the airport, was flooded in August 1981, killing eight people and causing devastating damage to the city's Draviavati River. The flood was caused by three days of heavy rain.
