About Karauli


History:

According to the legend of Mahabharata, Karauli was part of the Kingdom of Matsuya with Alwar in the modern princely state Karauli  was founded around 995 by Rajabi Jaipal, who is said to be a descendant of the Hindu god Krishna. His Highness Maharaja maintains a unit of 281 cavalry, 1640 infantry, and 56 artillery and is eligible to receive 17 congratulatory artillery (as of 1892). Later it was occupied by the British who ruled until 1947. The Maharaja Palace also has a building built in the mid-18th century. The state of Karauli was founded in 1348 by Maharajabi Jaipal.
