Chikmagalur District
History:
District Chikmagalur was known as the Cadour District until 1947. It is located in the southwestern part of Karnataka. Most of this area is "Marnado". H. Mostly forested hills where heavy rains fall. The district is named after the headquarters city of Chikmagalur. This literally means the second daughter's city, Chikuma + Magara + Or (Kannada). It is said that it was given as a dowry to the second daughter of Lucmangada, the legendary chief of Sacre Patna. Another part of the city given to the eldest daughter is known as Hiremagalur.
