Hassan District
History:
District Hassan, home to the Hoysala dynasty, dominated most of South India at its height from 1000 to 1334 AD, from Beruru to the early capital and from Halebidu to the late capital. This district was named Hassan after the city's goddess and main goddess, Hersanamba. The history of the Hassan district is essentially the history of the two known dynasties that ruled Karnataka, the Western Ganga dynasty (AD 350 999) and the Hoysala dynasty (AD 1000 1334) in Karnataka.
