Mandya District

History:

Mandya is part of a large plateau that stretches from Mysore to the edge of the Easter Ghat. Therefore, there are not many legends that explain the formation of the district itself, but there are quite a few legends that explain the formation of the place. Mandya seems to be known in Kuritayuga as "Vedalanya" and later "Vishnupra". Rishi (sage) here is said to have sinned, set up a statue of the god Janardana, and taught wildlife the pronunciation of the sacred word Vedas. For this reason, this place became known as "Vedaranya".
