About Chatra District

History:

Chatra County is one of the 24 counties of Jharkhand, India. The district was formed after parting with the state of Hazaribagh in 1991. Chatra, the gateway to Jharkhand especially Chotanagpur, has a glorious past with a rich historical heritage. The world has always been a quiet spectator of the evolution of human drama history. It is said that during the reign of Ashoka i.e. 232 B.C. the "Atavi" or jungle claims to acknowledge the rise of the Magadan Empire. It is said that Samudra Gupta who passed through Chotanagpur directed the first invasion of the southern Kaushal kingdom in the Mahanadi district.
