History:

Deoghar is a Hindi word and the literal meaning of ‘Deoghar’ is the abode (‘ghar’) of Gods and Goddesses (‘dev’). Deoghar is the largest town in the Deoghar District in the Santhal Parganas region of Jharkhand province, India. It is an important Hindu center with a Baidyanath temple which is one of the twelve Shiva Jyothirlingas in India and one of the 51 Shakti Peetha in India. It is located 150 km from the largest regional city of Bhagalpur. Deoghar was previously part of the Dumka District. It is the 5th largest city in Jharkhand.
