About Garhwa District

History:

On April 1, 1991, the region was created from the former province of Palm by separating its former part of Garhwa. Since 2011 Garhwa district is now part of the Red Corridor. So now there are 20 blocks in Garhwa district. There are 196 Gram Panchayats. The old Garhwa Subdivision of the Palamau district comprising 8 Blocks was separated from the Palamau district as an independent "Garhwa" district from 1 April 1991. The district is surrounded by the Sone River in the north. Garhwa District is part of the 19-block Palamau Commissionery with two sub-divisions namely Garhwa and Nagar-Untrai.
