History:
Coimbatore County is one of 38 districts in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore is the regional administrative headquarters. The Coimbatore region was part of the historic Kongu Nadu and was ruled by the Cheras as it served as the eastern portal of Palakkad Gap, the main trade route between the west coast and Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore was in the middle of a Roman trade route from Muziris to Arikamedu in southern India.
