Karur is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Karur is the administrative headquarters of the Karur region. Located on the banks of the Amaravathi, Kaveri and Noyyal rivers, the Region has rich and diverse cultural heritage. The name Karur probably got its name from Karuvoor Thevar, one of the nine devotees who sang Thiruvichaippa, divine music. He is one of the largest composers among the nine writers of Thiruvichaippa.
Karur is an old town located in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu province. It is famous for its handloom fabrics and the export of bedding. The city has fertile land because of the river Kaveri and the Amravati River. Areas of interest are Kalyana Pasupatheeshwara Swamy Temple, Ponnaniyar Dam, Mayanur and more.
