History:

Virudhunagar District is the administrative district of Tamil Nadu in southern India. Virudhunagar is the regional capital of Virudhunagar. Virudhunagar District is formed by the division of the Old Ramanathapuram district. Due to rapid growth in the Trade and Education sector, it was renamed Virudhunagar on 29 October 1923. Virudhunagar District was formed by the division of the Old Ramanathapuram District in 1987 into Ramanathapuram District, Sivagangai District and the western half as Virudhuna District.
