About Dharmapuri District
History:
Dharmapuri is one of 38 districts in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the first district to be formed in Tamil Nadu after the independence of India by separating it from the then Salem region on 2 October 1965. The Dharmapuri region was established as a separate district on 02/10/1955 with its headquarters in Dharmapuri. Thiru G. Thirumal I.A.S was the first collector of the Dharmapuri region. About 30 percent of the region's land area is under forest.

The Dharmapuri region is one of the largest producers of mangoes in the province, with the finest quality granite found in the region. It is also one of the largest sericulture belts in the province. About 30 percent of the region's land area is under forest. Kaveri enters Tamil Nadu through this region.
