According to a tradition known as “Pearl City” because of the abundance of fish in the area, Thoothukudi has a fascinating history. Forming part of the Pandi empire between the 7th and 9th centuries A.D., Thoothukudi settled in the hands of the Chola during the period between the 9th and 12th centuries.
