History:
Namakkal District is one of the 38 districts (administrative district) in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The district was divided into two parts of Salem District with the city of Namakkal as its capital on July 25, 1996 and operated independently from January 1, 1997. Namakkal was in the hands of King Atikula King Gunasila who was married to a descendant of palalava. Taluk was later ruled by the cholas of Kongu Mandalam which were driven by the cholas in the 9th century and transferred to Vijayanagar under the Viuroyultry of Madura.
