History:
The Theni District is one of 38 districts in the Tamil Nadu region of India. Well protected by the beautiful hillsides, the region is located near the Madurai region. The city of Theni is the regional capital. The Theni region was divided into two parts in Madurai City. It was declared an independent city in 1996 and in July. The Theni region was declared a separate district in 1997. Until then it was part of the Madurai district and was part of the Madurai municipality.
