History:
Khammam City, the former Taluk administrative seat, was part of the larger Warangal Region, until October 1, 1953. The nomenclature of Khammam is said to have been taken from the 'Narasimhadri' temple built on a hillock in the city. It is believed that King Narasimha came out of the stone pillar and killed the evil one. The incident happened in Krutayuga. The straight stone at the bottom of the temple was known as 'Kamba' and the town at the foot of the hill was called Kambamettu which gradually changed to Khammam matt and finally Khammam.
