Dantewada District
History:
The current Dantewada region existed in 1998. Previously it was the Tehsil of the Bastar region and therefore contained the whole Bastar theme, about the rich tribal culture and way of life. It is probably in the southern part of the Bastar region which is why the district is named Dakshin Bastar Dantewada. This place, known as Dandkaranya in those days, is associated with Ram as his Karmabhumi. One of the Shaktipeethas of India, the Maa Danteshwari temple is located in Dantewada. The god who ruled over Dantewada was the goddess Danteshwari. The world-famous Bastar Dussehra, also the world's longest-running festival, begins at Dantewada Shaktipeeth.
