History:

The current Dantewada region existed in 1998. Previously it was the Tehsil of the Bastar region and therefore contained the whole Bastar theme, about the rich tribal culture and way of life. It is probably in the southern part of the Bastar region which is why the district is named Dakshin Bastar Dantewada.
