Surguja District

History:

The province of Surguja is located in the northern part of the Chhattisgarh State of India. Prior to the arrival of the Maurya dynasty, the region belonged to King Inanda. Before 3 B.C. the district was divided into smaller parts with their chief after a dispute between them. Then a Rajputa kings belong to the Rakshal clan in the palamu district (Bihar) was attacked and taken from his control. In 1820 Amar singh was the King of the Surguja region who was crowned "Maharaja" in 1826. In 1882 Raghunath Sharan Singh Deo had seized power over the province of Surguja.
