Jashpur District

History:

Jashpur was a prince before independence. The history of this region is unclear. The site here says the evidence suggests that there was a Dom kingdom that ruled the area in the mid-18th century. The last Dom ruler Raibhan was defeated and assassinated by the founder of Jashpur State Sujan Rai. Banswada, a small Province in the old Province of Rajputana, is said to have been the traditional site of Sujan Rai's castor. They established their rule with their State in Sonpur.
