About Panchmahal

History:

The history of the Panchmahals region surrounds the town of Champaner and the nearby Pavagadh Hill. Champaner was founded in the 7th century (647) in the place of King Vanraj Chavda of the Chavda dynasty. In the 13th century, Chauhans obtained the city from the Muslim rulers under Alauddin Khalji. Their rule continued until 1484 when Sultan Mahmud Begada of Gujarat captured the city. Godhra later became a regional center under the Mughal Empire. The author of Mirat-i Sikandari, writing in 1611, praised the region's mangoes, calling them the best in the kingdom, saying that sandalwood grew extensively here and was used for housing.
