About Porbandar

History:

Porbandar County is one of the 33 districts of Gujarat in western India. Porbandar is the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi. Porbandar is also mentioned in the Mahabharata as the birthplace of Krishna's childhood friend Sudama. According to a mythological reference to the Sudama Charitra of Skand Puran of Shrimad Bhagavad, the present city of Porbandar was the name of Goddess Porav, and was found on the banks of the Asmavati river. The district was recorded in Junagadh district. It is located on the Kathiawar peninsula.
