About Balangir District


History:

The Balangir region, also known as the Balangir District, is located in the western part of the state of Odisha in India. The province of Balangir is named after its capital Balangir. The village has also been the capital of the Patna region since the 1880s. The region was first established in January 1948, where Patna and Sonepur merged. In 1993 due to regional reforms, Sonepur was separated from Balangir district and formed a new district called Subarnapur. In the middle of the 16th century, a central region called Balaramgarh, later became known as Balangir.
