About Ganjam District
History:
The Ganjam area was part of the ancient Kalinga kingdom ruled by King Ashoka in 261 B.C. The region was named after the ancient township and the European fortress Ganjam on the northern bank of the river Rushikulya, which was the regional capital. In 1757 it was French Governor Bussy, who marched to Ganjam and recognized places of honor for royalty.
