History:
Khordha District is the administrative division of the province of Odisha, India. It was established on April 1, 1993, with the division of Puri district into Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh counties. Khordha is one of the new districts recorded in the former Puri region on April 1, 1993. Another new district recorded in Puri was Nayagarh. In the year 2000, the name of the region was changed from Khurda to Kordha. The regional headquarters are located in the City of Khordha, known as Jajarsingh or Kurada, (kurada means filthy mouth).

The Khurda region is famous for its Ganesh Chaturthi festival (Jatni), Khurda Mohotsav (Khurda Town) and Laxmi Puja. Eid ul Fitr and Christmas are also celebrated here with great rejoicing.
