History:
Cachar District is the administrative district of Assam, India. After independence, Kacha's undivided district was divided into four districts. This area was originally part of the Kingdom of Twipra. The hills of Barali and Jayantia surround it to the north, Mizoram to the south, and the sister districts of Hailakandi and Karimganj to the east. In 1854 North Kacher was annexed and assigned to the district.
