About Majuli


History:

Mājuli or Majuli is a river island in the Brahmaputra River, Assam and in 2016 became the first island to be made a region in India. The island was a long, small piece of land called Majoli (land between two parallel rivers) with Brahmaputra flowing north and Burhidihing in the south until they met at Lakhu. It was once known as Ratnapur and was the capital of the mighty Chutia empire.

Famous:

It is the largest river island in the world and attracts visitors from all over the world. Majuli is also a strong contender for a place in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. Especially in the Aboriginal community, the Majuli culture is different. It is also called the cultural capital of Assam.
